The dead will speak at downtown eventJune 27, 2005 PORTSMOUTH - The first week of July heralds the busiest week of programming for the mayor’s Blue Ribbon Cemetery Committee’s Spirits 2005 - Bringing the Dead to Life. On Friday, July 1, historian Andy Melville, a longtime guide at the historic Moffatt-Ladd House, will present "Whipple and Langdon, Comrades in Arms," about two of Portsmouth’s second-tier founding fathers, activists in the Revolutionary War. President Abraham Lincoln and the first lady, played by Steve and Sharon Wood of Claremont, will celebrate the nation’s birthday on Monday, July 4. Lincoln will be making his third visit to North Burial Ground. Tom Dunnington, a lawyer and well-known stage performer with the Garrison Players, will be on hand Wednesday, July 6, playing the role of Benjamin Franklin. Another actor and familiar face to theater-goers on the Seacoast is Guy Chichester, who will play Joseph Whipple, brother of William Whipple, signer of the Declaration of Independence. Chichester has performed as Whipple on stage. HOW TO GET INVOLVED Where: All programs will be at North Burial Ground on Maplewood Avenue, opposite the Portsmouth Herald.
