Past Events: Spirits 2006
The Mayor's Blue Ribbon Cemetery Committee's highly successful program "Spirits 2006 - Bringing the Dead to Life" will open its third season Wednesday, Friday, June 2, in the North Burial Ground, Maplewood Avenue.
"Our committee's mission along with repair and restoration of our four historic burial grounds, and new signage is the use of these precious sites as a means of education and entertainment, outdoor classrooms via the use of costumed roleplayers, storytellers and lecturers," said committee chairwoman Audrey Bierhans.
Since there will not be a Chautauqua program this year, Spirits hopefully will fill the void with the addition this year with the inclusion of such presenters as Daniel Webster, Russian-Jewish immigrant Mary Antin, Louisa May Alcott, storytellers Jackson Gillman, Gwendolyn Quezaire Presutti and Merrill Kohlhofer, folksinger Bob Kilham, and our local favorites from seasons past, Gov. John Langdon, William Whipple, Dr. Hall Jackson, Civil War veteran Charles Moulton and speakers Dennis Robinson, Valerie Cunningham, Barbara Griswold and Roberta Ransley-Matteau and the ever-popular Portsmouth troubador Jeff Warner.
